Is someone doing renovations on level 4 (or below at level 2) at 6.30am!!!??? Woke up before my alarm today to a very loud grinding noise. Practically shook my bedroom walls. Surely you are not allowed to use power tools that early in the morning? Whoever is doing it, can please not wake me up tomorrow???

Agree. I could hear it from Level 8 at 6.15am. Unbelievable that someone thinks it's appropriate to whip out power tools in an apartment building at that time

Think it was coming from #207 - I can't be certain but that is my best guess, apologies to #207 if this is incorrect.
Clearly this was a serious breach of prohibited noise, occurring ~6.15am and waking many residents, including myself.

Prohibited times for residential noise

An electric power tool, chain or circular saw, gas or air compressor, pneumatic power tool, hammer and any other impacting tool or grinding equipment.
Monday to Friday: before 7 am and after 8 pm.
Weekends and public holidays: before 9 am and after 8 pm.

Someone's on the power tools again - but this time it was right on 7am so I guess that makes it ok? Unenjoyable to sleep through though!

Power tools are again being used at 6.00am this time. This is not appropriate at this time of the
Morning and it has made it very difficult to sleep. There is also regular hammering.
This is not on.

Hi Tom, I have been away this week so I can't help you locate which unit the noise was coming from.
That is the key, you have to find out the unit number where the noise is coming from and then report it to the building manager, who will then confront the residents/owners.

Additionally, If the noise is illegal, e.g. before 7am on a weekday, then you can go through EPA. Several residents, including myself, did this with unit #205 (see thread on this forum) with success. The EPA basically takes up the fight (with actual site visits and letters to the offending residents).
The noise makers in #205 have moved out recently. So with a little work, you can get success!

I think it's the office building next door - I spoke to the building manager about it last time I posted here. They are apparently having to do work in the building before people get in. Unfortunately that mean't starting work this morning at 6.15 (well that's when I woke up). Can we in some way ask them not to do this? It was impossible to stay asleep with the drilling and occasional hammering! Urgh!

This from the Age this week. Good reference on how to tackle noisy neighbours in apartment buildings.
